As a partner in EY Law LLP’s Business Immigration practice, Jonathan leads our Canadian and cross-border NAFTA Immigration practice. He provides a wide range of legal services, including offering strategic advice to businesses on policy and immigration program development, as well as assisting in the preparation and submission of applications for permanent residence status, work permits, citizenship, passport matters and customs issues in Canada.

Experience

He has worked in Latin American and Asia, including a period as a field officer in the Hong Kong Office of the Chief of Mission for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), where he played a key role in the development and implementation of UNHCR policy for the protection of, and assistance to, asylum-seekers and refugees. Jonathan continues his international efforts at EY Law LLP, where he works with EY tax and human resources professionals to relocate foreign nationals to Canada and the United States, as well as Canadian expatriates to foreign jurisdictions. Jonathan speaks French and Spanish, and he also has experience practicing criminal law.

Credentials

Jonathan is a certified Specialist in Citizenship and Immigration Law (Law Society of Upper Canada), and he is the co-editor of the monthly Thomson Reuters publication, Immigration and Citizenship Bulletin. He has written numerous articles and is frequently asked to speak on immigration-related subjects. He is a past member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Citizenship and Immigration Section Executive, and he is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada.

He holds an LLB from Queen’s University and a BA from the University of Toronto.
