Helen Byon leads EY Law LLP’s Global Trade practice. She assists clients with a broad spectrum of issues, including customs compliance, trade remedies, export/import controls and government procurement matters. She is a trusted advisor to clients across sectors, including metals, mining, oil and gas, auto, food, healthcare and retail. Her valued insights are shaped by a unique blend of legal acumen in trade and customs law, policy experience and strategic foresight.
Before assuming her current role, Helen spent 15 years with the Government of Canada, serving as counsel to the Canada Border Services Agency, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, Public Services and Procurement Canada and the Department of National Defence. During this time, she led legal teams in numerous complex trade and customs cases, provided strategic guidance on legislative reforms to the Special Import Measures Act and the Customs Act, and advised on major defence procurement projects.
